Databases are the key to accessing information we use everyday in our lives. Databases integrate data and DBMSs create, modify and access databases using query languages. Database gives flexibility for many people to access or for people to access only certain parts through the use of permissions or “lock” on certain areas of the database to nominated users.
Traditional file management systems e.g., maintain separate customer records for each functional area and result in unnecessary duplication of data.
Introduction to database development in an information system. In many information systems development efforts, the data model is the most important. For business information systems, the process and environment interaction models are usually produced after the data model.
Data are raw facts. Information is the result of processing data to reveal its meaning. To implement and manage a database, we explain what the DBMS and database design defines to the database structure.
A well-designed database facilitates data management and generates accurate and valuable information. A poorly designed database can lead to bad decision making, and bad decision making can lead to the failure of an organisation.
